7 Ways to Guarantee You Never Make Money Online

Untitled design

You know I’m nothing if not direct, and lately I gotta say – I’m noticing a BIG problem in the world of women online. It’s what I call the XXX disease. In which XXX stands for whatever the latest ‘must do’ program or activity for women entrepreneurs is, and it goes something like this –

Decide to build a successful online business

Faff around for 6-12 months deciding what said business should be about (this usually involves having an initial passion-based idea, changing it umpteen times into something that will ‘make more money’, getting to work on that second thing, maybe even building an entire website and program around it, and then quickly reverting back to the initial thing at the last minute as that’s where your heart is … except you still don’t know how to make money from it)

Have great idea/s for things you MIGHT be able to sell, but realise that you first need, in no particular order –

A pretty website

An SEO report

A logo

Professional photos

A copywriter

And (really, by this stage you DO!) a few healing sessions to help you handle the anxiety that has built up at how much time and money you’ve invested and yet you’re still not MAKING money.

Don’t worry. You’re not alone here! And it’s not your fault. That XXX disease is a sneaky and underhand sort of a bugger, isn’t it?! Of course now that we’ve IDENTIFIED it we really do need to DO something about it. First things first. If we’re going to beat this thing we need to be crystal clear on what it IS. Better the devil you know, right?

7. ALWAYS prioritise how you ‘look’ online ahead of going live with content or offers for sale

I mean c’mon! As IF anybody is going to buy anything from you when if you don’t look the shit, right? If you want to be a PRO, and GUARANTEE sales, as well as (let’s face it!) feel good about yourself then you better get your ass into gear and your bank account at the ready because you need everything as glitzed up and gorgeous as possible, stat. Okay okay, so maybe it WILL take 6 months to get the design just right, and maybe you DON’T have a spare 10k to cover design stuff, branding stuff, photos, a gorgeous social media presence and everything else the big girls have, but you know what? If you can’t stand the heat don’t jump in in the first place, right?!

I mean it’s not as though people buy stuff just based on the content, right?

It’s not as though anybody would ever prioritise RESULTS over LOOKS!

And it’s not as though you could ever prove yourself to anybody just by virtue of what you know and who you ARE! Right ….?

6. Figure your sh*t OUT before you do anything!

Look, there is no point at all in taking action until you get clear.

“Clear on what?”, I hear you ask.

Clear on everything, of course!

You need to know exactly what you want to do, for whom, in what sequence, how it will look, how you will launch it, what it will cost, even who will buy it and DEFINITELY how you’re going to pull it all off, and THEN you can take action.

Or you could … I dunno … just START. And kinda figure that shit out as you go. I guess it’s not as NEAT. I mean it’ll make you MONEY faster. But hmmm, yeah – it could be a little stressful. So you definitely should do the first version I think. Yep. That’s what you should do. Get your thinking cap back on girl – no work for you!

5. Your best work is done in moments of inspiration – wait for those moments!

It’s a fact – you can’t be ‘up’ all of the time. Sometimes you’re on, and sometimes you’re not. Sometimes you rock and sometimes you suck. It’s just how it is. And be honest now – NOBODY wants to read your sucky stuff. Or buy it. Or even LOOK at it. Heck even YOU shouldn’t have to see that garbage, which really means you shouldn’t CREATE it in the first place. What you SHOULD do, is wait to take action until you feel … you know … motivated! Ready! In the moment. And if you’re into stars and all that sort of thing you should definitely consult them first as well.

Everybody knows: if you want to take massive action and bring your biggest dreams to life, if you want to be known as a remarkable leader/creator/coach, then for God’s sakes wait until you are INSPIRED before you do anything! Okay, so you might only create once a week … and maybe there is SOME truth in the idea that things start flowing once you just begin, but really that just sounds a bit made up, don’t you think? Better to play it safe!

4. Once you make a decision you STICK to that decision girlfriend! And if it doesn’t work you MAKE IT WORK!

Look, if there’s one thing the world doesn’t need more of it’s indecisive entrepreneurs. God knows we have enough of them! And just because virtually every single successful business person out there changed there mind about a gazillion times, failed about a bajillion times, picked themselves up about a patrillion times (okay I’ll stop now!) doesn’t mean that YOU get to.

Okay, so everybody from Thomas Edison to Richard Branson has massive stories of repeated failure and direction-changing in their past but that is because they did things WRONG. Think of all the TIME wasted! It’s ridiculous, really.

Let’s be clear, so there’s no confusion: if YOU want to make it you need to decide NOW what you want to do, and you need to relentlessly move towards that dream until you GET there. You should ignore all tugs from within, flashes of inspiration, ideas that come to you in the shower or the still of the night, constant niggle that you’re not really doing what you should be or that it could be better than this and if at first you don’t succeed you should keep going at THAT EXACT TASK until it works.

It’s simply not true that some ideas are better or more meant to be, or just take longer to reveal themselves. You get to have ONE GOOD IDEA and you have to choose NOW!

3. Keep your really really big dreams to yourself, just in case you don’t make it

Can you imagine how embarrassing it would be to have told the world what you’re wanting to achieve and then not end up getting there? Or end up kind of changing things along the way? (We DID speak about change, remember, but sometimes I guess you just can’t help yourself!)

Some people say that energy, momentum and commitment all grow when you reveal your desires to others but I just think that’s an excuse for people to brag about stuff, don’t you? Seriously … keep your own shit to yourself. Not just because nobody else wants to hear about your crazy ideas but also because you’ll save yourself any accidental accountability or external motivation. Just in case you decide not to follow through, y’know?

2. Avoid spending time with those who are more successful than you – you’ll just make yourself FEEL bad and highlight all of the ways in which you might never get to where they are.

Ugh, is there anything worse than being the baby in the room? I don’t know about you but I’d far rather be surrounded by people who admire and look up to ME as the high achiever, then feel as though I’m behind and need to catch up! And I know, I know, it very possibly true that you tend to rise (or fall) to meet the level of your surrounds, but if it IS true that’s a risk you should be willing to take. Because the other possibility is that by joining masterminds or programs where everyone is a high achiever is that you just realise how much you actually DO suck and maybe others notice it as well! Gosh, they might even SAY something to you. I mean, what are the chances of people encouraging you? Or helping you? Or maybe even assuming that if you’re in that group, in that environment it’s because of who you ARE and what you HAVE inside of you, rather than what you’ve already DONE.

I don’t know, it just seems to iffy to me.

1. Base your decisions about what you can afford on your CURRENT financial situation rather than on the situation you want to create

Look, you can spend a lot of money getting a business off the ground if you’re not careful. God, I should know! I literally spent tens of thousands on coaching before I started making serious money online! What an idiot! I even ended up in over $50,000 of credit card debt as a result, which I definitely (really!) do not recommend if you want a stress free life. I mean really – you SHOULD be able to just figure it out yourself! Who ever heard of going to an EXPERT who ALREADY KNOWS HOW TO DO WHAT YOU WANT TO DO and can save you time and mon –

Oh.

Still … it is a bit RISKY, right? I don’t know if taking risks in business is really what a smart entrepreneur would do! Is it?

Look, it’s really up to you.

You should do whatever feels RIGHT for you.

But I can tell you from hard-won experience in my own life as well as those of my awesome clients that a GREAT place to start? Would be ignoring everything on this list and doing the opposite.
