11 Things You HAVE to Be Doing to Make Your Shit Sell … Fast!

I’m going to tell you the straight-up truth on what you need to be doing if you want to sell a LOT of your stuff online, and do it fast. Warning … this might be confrontational!

I’ve figured out a thing or two about money over the past few years. Particularly in the past 6-12 months.

Being dead near broke and considering bankruptcy has a funny way of making you pull your finger out of your ass and really figure out what works. Unless you give yourself the option of accepting defeat and getting a job or something, which was never on the cards for me. I would have gone down in flames and moved into my parents spare room with my entire family before I did that! And then started again. Always, started again.

It drives me mad that now I can so easily look back and see where I want wrong on my quest for money and success, a life on my terms. At the time I truly thought I was doing everything, giving it my all, so why wasn’t it working? It’s only now that I see how damn DISCONNNECTED I was from what I was meant to be doing in my business for ME, for my CLIENTS and then thirdly (not first!) for money and success.

I wish someone had have given me a slap on the head and showed me. Although I do wonder if it was just something I had to go through, a rite of passage, a way of testing out my resolve and seeing if I had what it takes to REALLY make it. (I always believed I did; I was always that certain, or arrogant if you prefer. Even when I had 0.04c in my bank account and nobody was buying my stuff).

Anyway … I’ve learned some stuff. I want to share it with you. Maybe, if you’re going through your own financial and success hellfire, it will help. Or maybe it won’t help you at ALL and this is just YOUR rite of passage. Maybe you have to hit rock bottom in order to figure out how to do things the right way for YOU. I actually believe that was true in my situation. If that’s the case for you, this list will still help. You can read it now and then come back to it when you’re ready to implement, after you crash and burn.

OR you could give it a go right away, I don’t know. I’m not trying to be cheeky or, I don’t know, reverse psychology you. I actually do think that sometimes we have to metaphorically die in our quest for success and the dream life in order to be born again and be able to see things as they really are. Maybe even recognising that for yourself will help you to do that faster, so you can start again faster! I’d love to hear your thoughts on this (comment below), but in the meantime – the list. Some of the stuff on here might surprise you, might even feel frivolous. I’m just telling you what I’ve learned works, the stuff that took me from stuck-in-a-carpark broke to multiple 5-figures a month income and on my way to 6. Seriously … don’t discount the stuff that seems like it shouldn’t matter that much!

The final point is the most important.

11 Things You HAVE to Be Doing to Make Your Shit Sell … Fast!

11. It has to sound or look cool to the buyer.

Useful/educational/inspiring is not enough. Everyone wants to be in the cool club, be part of a tribe, belong. That is way more interesting than being educated or even motivated. Don’t promise knowledge, inspiration, personal power – promise me I can be in the cool club, that I can belong to something awesome. If your stuff doesn’t have cool factor (to YOUR community, doesn’t have to be cool to the rest of the world!) then get your butt into gear and cool-ify it! Here’s an example of the coolest and most high value thing I ever created – My Rich Chick Mastermind. Truth be told, I didn’t know it would be so cool when I created it. Although to my credit the name is pretty damn awesome for my peeps. But something about it just took OFF from day 1, the women who are the RIGHT women who are in that group love it so much it blows my mind. One even said last week “if I was walking down the street and anybody asked why I’m so happy, I would have said because I’m a Rich Chick!“.

You can’t create that sort of cool factor just by TEACHING people.

10. Spur of the moment is often where the best stuff lies.

You pour your heart and soul into creating something that is so damn perfect, you dot every i and cross every t and triple check all your marketing and sales processes, and what happens? Fuck all! And then you chuck something together at the last moment, a flash of inspiration that you decide to just run with, and it is the best thing you did in years, or the best thing you EVER did even.

The lesson is not ‘never prepare’, but more so – if you get that flash of inspiration FOLLOW THE DAMN THING NOW! Do not pass go, do not collect $200, RESPECT your ideas and act on them with no hesitation! Like it or not, ideas do NOT come back to you, you pass ’em up and they are GONE.

9. The only way to guarantee you will make great money, or have that great idea, is to be constantly creating new stuff.

It’s impossible to fail if you just keep going. Here’s what does not count as creating, although I’d still consider it essential money making stuff – affirmations. journalling. reading/listening to case studies of other people’s success. writing sales pages. making a pretty website. reading about money making. working on your money mindset. tracking your money. improving existing stuff. perfecting/fine-tuning what you created (do that once you’re making money, not before). anything that is not creating more stuff.

Here’s what does count as creatIng more stuff: creating more stuff.

8. Oh and the new stuff you’re coming up with?

You do have to also put it out there. #obviousbutneedssaying The faster you get your stuff out there, the faster you make money. Your pretty website, copywritten ‘perfect’ sales page, carefully checked product or program is not going to make anywhere near the money your PROGRAM THAT YOU WENT LIVE WITH STRAIGHT AWAY REGARDLESS OF IMPERFECTION IS MAKING.

Try it both ways and see what works, if you don’t believe me.

7. People want access to you and a sense of community. (Cool cult tribe!).

This is worth much more than most other things you include in your program or product, no matter how good the content. Give people a right to belong to your community. Embrace them. Make them welcome. BE there for them. You can never fail by serving people.

6. Be cool.

This is not the same as have a cool idea. Be cool means – don’t be needy. Please. It’s just … not cool. Your excitement about your idea will sell it more than whether or not the idea is any good. Hint: excitement and desperation can’t co-exist.

Extra hint: desperately needing to make money is a surefire way to not make any. (Keep reading if you don’t know how to move past desperation)

5. Be excited and curious about how much money you can make, not anxious or “OMG” about it.

Think of money like that incredibly hot guy you once longed for … if you want him to notice you, you GOTTA be cool. Nobody wants a desperate stalky type person around them!

4. If you are seriously at OMG point with money and can’t seem to get past it, because you are about to SINK, suck it up and create more, faster.

THIS IS THE ONLY WAY. And trust me GOD have I been there, and I know how hard it is to NOT focus on the money, but you simply cannot afford to focus on how much you need money. Instead, focus on how you can create VALUE and you will receive value. Throw more at the wall, the more you throw the higher the chances of something sticking. KNOW YOU ARE DOING EVERYTHING – when you go to bed at night don’t let your head hit the pillow until you know you have done EVERYTHING you can do to create, to give value. Oh so you’re tired, it’s too hard, you’ve already TRIED (insert whiny 4-year old voice) and it didn’t work yet? Maybe you don’t know how? Bad luck then, you don’t get to succeed. SUCK IT UP. Or give it up.

Then keep only what works, and discard the rest fast. Make more room to create more of the right stuff, don’t flog a dead horse.

3. If you hate your idea and hate having to respond to customers about it, then guess what?

It doesn’t work, quit it. This should be obvious, but I still see so many people doing something because it’s a ‘good idea’ and ‘will make money’.

No, it’s not. And no, it won’t.

2. Love your customers.

Care deeply about their success, so much so that you feel almost physical pain at their pain. When they bleed you bleed too, and you want to cry for what they’re going through because you have BEEN there and you just hate having to see them like that. They are like your babies, you just want to hold them and help them, but you know that they still have to learn to do it themselves. But you wish you could take away their pain. And when they do succeed it’s like it’s your success you are so damn happy and proud. Hint: your customers succeeding IS what will make you succeed. It’s actually not possible the other way around. AND you would help them succeed even if it didn’t help you, that’s how much you care.

If you can’t/don’t love your customers THAT much, get new customers, a new niche. If you can’t do that, quit.

1. The Most Important Thing

Serve. Be of service.

Be humble.

Be so damn honest you think everyone is going to HATE you or at least laugh at you, turn their noses up at you.

Give EVERYTHING. Everything of yourself, share the stuff that is so embarrassing and makes you look like an idiot but also give all of your KNOWLEDGE. Don’t do that tip of the iceberg smoke and mirrors shit that most coaches give. Give the entire freaking system and ALL the secrets to your success. Don’t be afraid of losing power or of giving it away too cheap! People still have to bring THEIR awesomeness to it for it to work, and you can’t give them that no matter how much you might want to. But seriously, if you’re going to create a program or product give it ALL.

How can you serve YOUR community?

How can you give it ALL away?

How can you create such incredible value that you never again need a sales pitch or maybe even a sales page, ’cause everyone is just so dumbfounded by what you do that they can’t stop talking about it.

Be that person and you can ignore the other 10 points.

Oh, and for the love of God? Don’t save this till you’ve got your head above water like I did! Start NOW.

Another awesome post thank you Kat! I am a hit rock bottom type of girl. I have had to allow parts of me die a metaphorical death. I have had to just go through it after spending huge amounts of time attempting to grow first so it would be far less painful!

I feel personally I needed to go through everything I have. In having said that it has helped greatly reading others experiences and knowing I can and will survive.

I do believe in a rite of passage. Now that is. I couldn’t image saying so 6 months ago! Back then, although I worked hard and wasn’t afraid of doing so, I was associating with the notion of ‘ease’. I do believe in ease, but in my experience it comes after all the discomfort and it’s not long before the next step and then more discomfort – before a small respite of ‘ease’.

I’ve been guilty of #9 in a huge way. And in some ways focusing on these tasks and not getting anywhere is something I needed to go through.

Honestly, I would likely still be busy on #9 all day long, waiting for inspiration to strike or ‘ease’…if I hadn’t found you Kat and joined The Rich Chick Mastermind!

Thank you again Kat for your honesty, transparency and authenticity. All you share has assisted me to get out of the stuck place I was in. I am grateful you live #1 – the most important thing! And I’m grateful I had some awesomeness to bring along and am finally making progress!

Love it Leah – the rite of passage thing is BIG … and it is GOOD to be able to acknowledge that. So proud of you!
