3 Workouts, 2 Great Meals, And 1 (Forced) Positive Outlook
If you read my post from yesterday you’ll know that I was feeling a little moody. Resenting feeling out of control about my exercise and food choices while on holiday in Surfers Paradise. Wishing we’d come somewhere less touristy and brightly coloured.
20 or so hours later, things are on their way to improving. I’ve:
- Hit the gym yesterday afternoon for a 32-minute interval sprint session (yes, I could have done that on the beach but couldn’t be bothered with the elements, especially given my poor sunburnt shoulders)
- Checked out Bikram Yoga Gold Coast for an extremely humid 90-minute session. Awesome sweat!
- Made choices I feel happy about at dinner last night, AND at breaky just now. Even though it was a buffet! Now that’s self-control.
- Oh – and after yesterday’s disorganization was planned and prepared enough today to get up early enough for a pre-breaky run. Gym and/or yoga later.
It’s still tacky here, the weather is still average, and I still wish I’d stayed in Byron, but overall things are looking up. It never ceases to amaze me how my mindset can shift so dramatically from one day to the next – or even from one minute to the next. Yesterday morning I was grumpy, felt out of control, and annoyed at myself for letting my good health/energy disappear so rapidly after leaving Melbourne. Today I’m feeling clean on the inside, energized from 3 good sweat sessions, and – most importantly – certain that I can choose to have a good time regardless of where I am.
Moral of the story? Feeling happy about yourself and proud of how you’ve looked after your body can change as quickly as the wind blows. Just because you’ve had a good week to start the year off does not mean you can’t go back to feeling unhealthy and flat within as little as a day. And sure, you can’t control every situation you end up in. But you can decide whether or not to go with the flow. And if the flow ain’t making you happy, then make the choice to get back to feeling good about you. Nothing else is as important as that. As I keep saying –
Great story!! Although where we are has some importance, the direction we are headed is much more important!
Even if we don’t always figure that direction out till we get there! The journey is definitely part, if not most of the fun.
