THE UNBECOMING
The unbecoming is perhaps the hardest part of all of being an entrepreneur.
And for some of us – the hardest part of being human!
All of a sudden the things you depended on, swore on, would have staked your life on, just aren’t true anymore. Don’t work anymore. You don’t want ’em anymore.
And nothing makes sense.
It would be easier if you had a certain definite ‘beyond normal human capabilities’ ACTION plan, because an action plan is something a driven gal willing to do what it takes, no matter what it takes, TIL it takes, can get behind.
Produce or perform more before breakfast than most people do in a day, a week, a month, let’s be honest, a lifetime? NO PROBLEM! With 6-inch pink stilletto’s on, duh!
It’s only what I wrote about for years.
What I WAS for years.
What I believed in for years.
And what I honestly truly hand on my heart thought life WAS for years.
I knew, ALWAYS knew, I had a big call on my life! It wasn’t about doing for the sake of doing, PUH-lease. I was INFINITELY more evolved than that.
It was about purpose, alignment, following inner truth, a message, and a life less ordinary for both myself and others!
But in the end,
it was still about how much I did,
who I was,
what I had become,
and backing and believing in my SELF.
And in the end?
There was always gonna have to BE an end to all of that, because as much as it was in many ways the MOST amazing way a gal could live or create or be in a worldly sense,
it was STILL ONLY AND EVER THAT.
And therein lay the ‘would-not-go-away’ dilemma, because THROUGH it all, I knew –
I’m running from God.
This will have to stop.
I need to put down ALL of it, and report in for duty. Duty to He who created me and to BE WHO I WAS BORN TO BE.
Not the Kat version. Did that. Got the t-shirt. Was awesome in many ways, tragic in others. Had no TRUE spiritual life to it. But God’s version.
And the thing with God’s version is … (perhaps you’ve noticed?) …
it kinda sort turns yours on its head, throws it into the tumble dryer followed by a few rounds in the boxing ring, and then throws you at top swirling speed into the supernatural blender, with various intervals for supernatural surgery in which God BREAK BREAK BREAKS off the bits of you that YOU made,
and shows you how real that new heart, new spirit, and daily more redeemed mind which HE gives,
actually is.
All of which is to say that if you are currently in a season of UNBECOMING –
I feel ya.
I see ya.
I have BEEN ya.
And absolutely still AM.
Because here is the thing with the God thing:
It is no overnight fix.
But it is also not EVER at ANY point a fix, in the sense that nope. We are not gonna ever get to the bit where you know exactly all the moves you should or shouldn’t be making and can just rest in THEM.
(I mean … did you ever? No. Flow was a thing even YOUR way! Just one with no definite foundation).
Because instead … (and the fix is) … we now rest in God.
We are no longer led to strive towards achievement of an identity which the world sets a standard for. Or our family set a standard for. Or our relentless pursuit of one day being enough sets a standard for. Or our misaligned in our own strength idea of purpose and a successful life sets a standard for!
Instead we are FREE FREE FREE, FREE AT LAST, to see who GOD says about who we are,
and what we are here to do.
And the thing our human minds simply WILL not ever compute without Christ in us is that we are no longer striving to BE something, we already ARE the thing we were born to be, in Him.
We are MADE whole, complete, right, finished, by believing in and accepting Him.
Which means that our day to day … the ‘quest’ we were setting out to achieve in business, ministry, money, love, or life …
is now no longer about getting some place,
and instead about “Lord, what would you have me to today?”
The hardest part of the unbecoming, perhaps, is simply that your ENTIRE reason for being is no longer there, but on top of it – the NEW you no longer needs to fight to be or do or become enough, or indeed anything!
So if you feel just a teensy bit LOST at times, in this season of God renewing you into who HE made you to be.
If you wonder at times whether you shouldn’t be DOING more, whether maybe you’ve missed a step and God is waiting on you to get properly ON it.
Just remember:
His ways are not LIKE your ways were, or ever could be.
Yes it is hard at times. The stop starting as you realise you were just about to go down a whole path once more of pursuing your own worth or provision. The trying to figure out where God IS calling you, and whether perhaps you SHOULD just do all the things, just with a ‘God filter’ applied.
But it is beautiful.
It is peace, in a way you never knew.
And it is also, truly, as simple, as STOP.
Before you start, STOP.
And ask:
“Lord,
what would you have me do?”
Trust,
you hear Him.
He is leading you.
He is equipping you.
And that all His promises?
Really are for you.
The world teaches you to keep striving,
and maybe one day you’ll be enough.
God says I just made you enough, because you accepted my son.
Now come,
sit a while,
let’s talk,
and let me show you the wonders of the Universe I made,
the glory of my work,
and the path I prepared for you,
before you even arrived.
Stay a while,
there’s no rush.
I’ve so much to show you,
and we’ve so much to do together.
Will you walk with me?
There’s nowhere you have to go.
It is all already done.
It is finished.
And we will be together for eternity.

Just look to me.
And nowhere else.
