YOU ARE STILL CAPABLE OF SHOWING UP

On the days when you don’t feel like it, and there’s nothing you know how to say or do, you can still show up, begin with a single letter, and move forward.

When your energy is flat and low but yet something within you whispers ‘create!’, and you feel frustrated because you simultaneously want to do NOTHING but also EVERYTHING, or at least –

All the things that being the most lit up version of you would entail –

And you just sit there, staring blankly at the wall while nothing comes through you, it is absolutely still possible to start.

When you don’t know how

When you don’t know if you’re yet allowed to

When you are certain nobody wants to hear YOU talk about that

You can still show up.

When it feels absolutely pointless, and you’ve nearly convinced yourself it’s not worth it, and ‘it’s not as though I HAVE to, it’s fine to take a day off’, but yet your soul knows it STILL HAS ITS WORK TO DO –

You can still show up.

Because here is what is true about showing up, about doing the work, about being the artist –

It’s a vocation
A way of life
A choice which, if you ARE really that person, you will choose every day
Just like you choose to get up each day,
and continue breathing

It’s not about having the download,
catching a hold of the muse,
the spirit coming upon you,
or knowing anything about ANYTHING, about what to say

it’s as simple and as never-ending as –

I think and therefore I create.

But the question is,

Do you?

And ARE you?

(truly
a creator)

Your excuses may well be real … true … ‘understandable’ … I’m sure they are!

That does not make them valid.

Maybe you think this view is too extreme.

Too demanding!
Unrealistic!
‘I should write or speak or create only when the power comes over me!’

I think –

You’re just not an artist.

Not a creator.

And certainly,

Not one of us.

But then again nobody ever accused me of not being extreme enough 🙂

I think that if you were born for this and made for this and you are this, then the work must come through you DAILY. And it is your job to simply MAKE FUCKING SPACE FOR THAT –

Be in the space –

And allow it.

Perhaps it comes today in words, tomorrow in a song, the next in the way your very breath changes the world around you, the way your artists spirit and presence shifts the vibration of all, on a cellular level.

But come it does.

And come it must.

You can spend your days, if you like, explaining to yourself and all, all the ways, if you like, that you’re NOT ABLE TO DO THE WORK OF YOUR SOUL TODAY, and so that’s why, over time –

You didn’t make the money.
You didn’t build the tribe.
You didn’t write the book.
You didn’t create the empire.
You didn’t shift the world.

Or?

You can be the damn person who sits her motherfucking ass in the chair every day and does what she came here to do.
