BREAK TIES TO THE OLD, OR YOU WON’T RECOGNISE THE NEW

The thing you gotta understand with the NEW thing, the next level thing, the now thing, the this is who you ARE now thing, is that on first glance?

It might appear to be the horrible uncomfortable scary ouchy scratchy I-don’t-WANNA thing.

ESPECIALLY if the previous thing, the thing it’s been ’til now and that your mind thinks it still SHOULD be now, is kinda, well –

Awesome.

Cool.

Epic and beyond what most people would ever imagine let alone create or do!

Say for example you created a whole BUNCH of success in your previous season. Let’s just call it, for arguments sake, the season of you doing a YOU thing. In your own efforts. Strength. Ideas. And imagination of flow.

And say, for arguments sake, you’ve now finally woken up to the fact that you don’t WANT a ‘I built this’ sort of a life anymore. In fact, even though parts of you would disagree with this (hi ego, mind, own will), on a deeper level you NEVER wanted that life.

Because even though it was absolutely fabulous … amazing … awe-SOME … and the ‘YASSSS GIRL’S’ were plentiful …

it was exhausting.
The tiara was old and worn.
You’d become a thirty or forty something prom Queen still riding on a thing which mattered once upon a TIME.
And the truth is that even during that time …

so so much of it was covering up a deeper call, an eternal call, a true identity call, a GOD call,

to be who He made you to be.
Who He knitted you in the womb as.
SANCTIFIED you as.
And to walk forward in what He ordained you for.
And the truth is that all of the … STUFF. As wonderful and impressive and even fun as it was. Was simply never going to fill that place inside of you which can ONLY be filled by a life fully lived in,
and for,
Him.

Now here is the thing about being a purpose-driven, high-performing, has finally figured out who she is and WHOSE she is sort of a gal.

>>> WE JUST CAN’T DO THE COUNTERFEIT ANYMORE, BUT WE SURE WILL HOLD ON FOR DEAR LIFE LONG PAST THE POINT OF KNOWING THAT.

Which, if this is you, comes down to this:

You are still in agreement with who you WERE, and God is saying – “but that’s not who I made you to be, that’s not what it was ever meant to be, and oh oh oh BY THE WAY – the new thing I have for you is SO MUCH BETTER”.

I’m talking to the high achievers who DID do ‘spectacular’ things in their own efforts when I say your MIND is holding on to a story that because you made this or that sort of money, kicked these or those kind of goals, were known in this or that kind of way, were respected and lauded and wow –

that letting GO of that, walking away from that, being done with that, perhaps even being so bold as to SASHAY FORWARD WITHOUT LOOKING BACK, AS YOU THROW A MATCH INTO GASOLINE OVER YOUR SHOULDER AND LET IT BURNNNNN BABY, BURN IN YOUR WAKE –

is freaking SCARY.

Because?

Because you made the standard money. Or fame. Or status. Or effort. Or production. Or busy-ness. Or expenditure. Or outcomes. Or reputation. Or opinion.

YOU GET THE IDEA.

But what if …

what if the NEW thing.

The NOW thing.

The YOU thing for THIS season.

Simply wasn’t about that.

Because it was (and this is INHERENTLY true, because it is how God works) SO.MUCH.BETTER.

Can I tell you?

If you’re so scared to let go of the identity that once was, you’ll never walk forward into what is.

Do you really think that God’s best for you is a lesser or in ANY way paler or less desirable thing than the always-slightly-exhausting thing YOU built, which simply meets some worldly standards and even then never was ENOUGH?

That’s ridiculous.

And let me tell you what else is:

A woman, or man, in their thirties. Forties. Fifties. Etc. Who is still riding the coat-tails of their teenage prom King or Queen status, because they haven’t CHOSEN to believe there’s a better now. A right now. A ‘this is what it only ever could have been’ now.

You’re not making sense.
That’s what this is really about.
Your mind, emotion, will, is scared to lose itself. Your soul is screaming to still be in charge. But don’t you get it?

Jesus said that when we LOSE our life, when we give over the wants or ideas of our soul, we GAIN true life, spiritual life, which is the ONLY real life.

And all that comes with it.

Right now you have a choice –

Walk boldly, with the Spirit of boldness in you, into the NEW thing,

or keep trying to resurrect the YOU thing.

I don’t have to tell you –

It already lost it’s tarnish a long while ago.

Quit pretending otherwise,

or continue to lose your life.
