LEFT OR RIGHT FOR DECEPTION, EYES ON HIM FOR DIRECTION

I’m going to talk to you today about one of the huge downfalls of being an extremely principled, ‘will live or die by what it IS’, sort of a person.

The kind of person who is disciplined to repeatedly do the things she believes in and knows are right.

The kind of person who seeks to understand her own shortcomings or potential sabotages.

The kind of person for whom, the very second she ‘gets’ why to do or not do a thing, and there’s a match with her values and deepest beliefs, will just – switch. Bam. “And then I just did”.

If you’re like this … (and let’s face it, why on earth would you be HERE if you’re not!) … you’re likely one of the most purpose-driven and successful people you know. Heck, you’re probably one of the most purpose-driven and successful folks anyway knows! You take high-performance, being a multi-passionate AND multi-talented entrepreneur, and relentless follow through to the next level.

All in all –

you are the one who, if she says she’s gonna do a thing, DOES it. Day in and day out. No matter what. The end!

But also, well, hm.

You are easily distracted.
You have plenty you do NOT follow through on.
You sabotage.
Do have or have had unhealthy and possibly extremely self-destructive additions.
Have certain things in particular you either can’t seem to kick or alternatively can’t seem to pick up no matter how much you think / pray / journal on / try to overcome it.

And as a PRINCIPLED person it’s, well – infuriating! Irritating in the extreme. And you just want to understand it, because if you understood it you could fix it!

Except.
And except.
And except.

There are certain things where it is as simple as:

Because God said so.
Because it’s not good for you.
Because it’s derailing your destiny.
And you thinking you ‘need’ to know, figure it out, fully GET it in order to address it …

is the deception itself.

This morning as I walked, and talked to God, and pondered this, He brought to my mind the scripture in Romans where Paul laments “I keep doing the things I don’t want to do, and those I should be doing I don’t do”.

Why do you think God had that put in the Bible? So we can feel better about the fact that ‘even Paul’ struggled with sin? Or because it is simply the HUMAN CONDITION (yes, even for those who God greatly calls and even for those who live a life of surrender and submission to that call) to BE DECEIVED. Or to be led by the flesh.

What the scripture doesn’t go on to say is that Paul then analysed his sinful tendencies til he fully figured out why, or discussed the situation with his besties to get the latest strategies for being disciplined and ‘that guy’. The whole point of this scripture is … he didn’t know why! He wanted to act differently and he didn’t!

What Jesus revealed to me on this topic is:

“you don’t always need to know why you do or do not do what you do Kat. Sometimes you just need to obey because it is what I SAY. And the principle for you to lean on is simply that – obedience to God. NOT your own understanding.”

I think that part of this is, for us purpose-driven high-performing types, if we just really know our direction and our ‘why’ we will forge ahead regardless of what is on the path potentially stopping us. Often times our sabotage or disconnect is around the fact that we don’t feel a clear direction. ‘If I knew what the direction was for me to get through this, or charge forward with this, I’d do it!’

But Jesus says He IS our direction.

And anything else is deception.

“When you look to the left or the right you are by definition in deception”, He said to me.

“That’s all you need to know. You don’t need to understand every element or twist or turn or ‘why’ of the deception. You just need to know – looking away from me is deception. You are deceived and therefore confused. This is why you can’t ‘figure yourself out’, or ‘get yourself back on track’.

I AM the direction”.

The thing with being one of the driven ones …

One who so desperately yearns to know and to walk in the mysteries of God –

is there is a danger of leaning on our OWN so-called wisdom to do this. If ‘I’ can figure out / understand / get / be strong enough.

But God’s word tells us to lean NOT on our own understanding. To submit to Him always. To acknowledge Him in all things. And that He will and IS, as a child of God, directing our paths. (Proverbs 3:5-6).

Want to know what else it says, in Psalms 1:6?

He blesses our way AS we walk forward.

Not as we stop and turn every which way to figure it out 😉

He also says that if we are His child we ARE led by His Spirit (Romans 8:14). Not ‘maybe / sorta / if’.

So when in doubt. Confused. Directionless. Adrift. Or you just can’t seem to get it together and get moving.

Jesus IS your direction.
Look to Him.
Know He IS guiding you.
Repent for deception and for seeking understanding outside of Him.
And WALK FREAKING FORWARD.

After all,
the thing you decided to lean on is no longer your own principles,
but Him.

The end.

Now don’t forget –

Life is Now. Press Play.
