CREATING FOR OTHERS WHEN YOU WERE BORN TO CREATE FOR GOD
Earlier this week God hit me straight upside the face with one of the best sucker punches I’ve had in a long while.
It was one of those total ‘how did I not SEE that’ moments, and honestly? Made me IMMEDIATELY aware of how much simpler, easier, and more fulfilling my work would get to be through this oh-so-obvious lens.
At the same time, it made me INSTANTLY aware of the clear distinction between the work I do which IS already this,
and the work which is so clearly not.
And what He said, which I know is for you and ALL my fellow purpose-driven creators as much as it is me, was:
“Stop creating for other creators when I made you to create for me.
Your work should be a worship to ME, not a work or even what YOU call art which is designed to stand out online, or even to serve and help your clients.
Even if you are creating for your MOST ideal audience and clientele …
that’s not how to create.
And everything else you seek will be a by-product of that.
It WILL reach the right people.
In the right way.
Because it is ACTUALLY to and from and for and through me, rather than you saying and even wanting that yet in reality having undertones of pouring forth what people need or want or will notice, in a way which will stand out from the rest so people can see why they need and want this.
What people SHOULD be seeing, sensing, being shifted by in your work, whether or not they are even aware of that, is ME.
And if you don’t create your work in worship to and RESPONSE to me,
how do you expect ME to be in it?”
Woah.
Kinda reminds me of the time I was trying to make a case to God as to why my $2000 Identity Switch, which everybody LOVED, and I created before I went fully all in on Him, could be kinda sorta cleaned up and I could keep selling it. Mebbe. Add some proper God pieces? Edit as needed? Yes?
“How do you think you’re selling a course on identity which wasn’t taught from ME?”
WOAH woah.
I put it down immediately. Which is to say, pulled it off the shelf.
Here is what I think today’s pondering is.
One of the things we as creators who have a message to pour forth continually seem to circle around is the ‘figuring out’ bit.
There’s no question but that we want to pour out our best and truest work. The actual work we are here for. The stuff which simply HITS. And has the effect of magnetising people and money, sure, why not?!
When we fully give ourselves and our businesses over to God, we begin the surrender process of finding ALL that we are here for in Him, and forsaking all else. We start to see our business, our income, our impact, as HIS. For HIS glory. HIS Kingdom. And in a very real sense, our hunger which once was always for MORE …
becomes increasingly and rightly, according to our design, for Him.
But have you noticed?
It can be SUPER easy to simply switch the ole ‘accidentally writing / creating what people will buy or want or need which in turn will grow my business’ to … ‘accidentally writing / creating what people will buy or want or need except now I put a God filter on it and obviously it’s for HIM now except phew;
this should work for ME’.
Or some sort of thing like that. 😉
The thing is, and this is not just about THIS topic –
God did not make us to figure out ANYTHING.
But instead to be a living worship to Him and to look to Him in EVERYTHING.
And as a writer … speaker … creator … coach … one who is here to pour forth a GLORIOUS and rightly supernatural thing, and who has a HUGE call on her life to BE that voice for God on earth …
HOW ON EARTH DO YOU EXPECT GLORIOUS OR RIGHTLY SUPERNATURAL WITHOUT IT BEING TO AND FROM HE WHO IS THE ONLY ONE WHO IS THOSE THINGS?
Or, as God said to me on another memorable day –
when you look to me you find you.
Did you notice yet?
Have you read?
Have you finally let go and SEEN?
When we look to Him we find EVERYTHING which is for us.
In fact He is the literal location of that everything.
And just as Matthew 6:33 tells us, when we seek first Him and His righteousness all else is added to us.
Now here is what else –
This journey with God, it’s not one us high-performing folks are ever gonna get to done with.
We already KNEW all of this.
And tomorrow or next week He will give us ANOTHER revelation on all of this.
Because the journey back home, well. It’s a race we run to the end. It is only perfected when we leave this earth!
So just as the scripture tells us, we have to seek Him always and in all things including for the strength and also vision TO run that race.
Today, let’s make it simple:
Lord I repent for making the work of my hands anything other than a worship to you. Please forgive me. I see now that when my art, and the work you place on my heart, is a worship to you, and I simultaneously BELIEVE you when you said you will provide for me beyond what I can catch or hold, and all my needs will be taken care of in you as well as my every desire found in you met when I abide in you. I lay myself, my business, my creativity, my finances once more at the foot of the cross and I say Lord –
DO WITH ME AS YOU WILL.
USE ME FOR YOUR PURPOSE.
And let the work of my hands today be a worship to you.In Jesus Name I pray,
Amen.
